‘Not a Good Day’

John Koblin reports that The New York Times plans to cut 100 jobs from its 1,250 person newsroom by the end of the year.

Staff members were informed via email just before 2:30 this afternoon, and are receiving the news in person at a 2:45 meeting.

“I doubt that anyone is shocked by the fact of this, but it is happening sooner than anyone anticipated,” said Bill Keller in the email (read the rest in Koblin’s article).

“This is not a good day,” said managing editor John Geddes.
