Senator Sampson Less ‘Pissed Off’ in The Times

It appears yesterday’s prepared remarks by Senate Majority Leader John Sampson were too hot for The New York Times.

In announcing the formation of a Senate committee to consider the case of Senator Hiram Monserrate, Mr. Sampson gift-wrapped one for the press. “As a father with daughters, I am not only angry, I’m pissed off,” he said.

Predictably, it’s the first quote in the Daily News’ story, the first in the Post‘s story, and it was the lone soundbite in a brief WNYC story this morning.

But apparently being “pissed off” is verboten at The Times, which opted to paraphrase:

“As a father with daughters,” he added, he was extremely angry.
