Bill Thompson thinks Hiram Monserrate should step down.
Speaking to reporters outside Michael Bloomberg’s campaign office, where he joined a protest organized by AIDS activists, Thompson said, “I think it’s becoming clearer, and clearer each and every day that in this case of domestic abuse is one that, in spite of the fact that he was only convicted of a misdemeanor, people feel that elected officials should be held to hire standards, and that senator Monserrate needs to steps aside.”
When asked if he agreed with those people, Thompson said, “Yes I do.”
That’s further than Michael Bloomberg has gone.
When Bloomberg was asked over the weekend if Monserrate should resign from the senate, Bloomberg said, “I think what Hiram Monserrate did, according to the judge is disgraceful, despicable, deplorable, but I’ll leave that up to the Senate. I shouldn’t be getting involved in their internal politics.”
