In advance of Rudy Giuliani’s speech on Monday to Republican on Staten Island, some internal drama is surfacing.
City Councilman Jimmy Oddo, who had to break a sweat in his re-election earlier this month, sends the clearest signals that he’s unhappy with the Republican chairman in that borough, John Friscia.
From the Staten Island Advance:
“I am starved, starved for leadership. If Mr. Friscia wants to be the chairman, he has to bring something to the table — increasing party registration, raising money. I am envious of the Democrats. They have a chairman, John Gulino, who is involved in the campaigns, who has built his party, who raises money, who ran two aggressive candidates for Council against Vinny and me. That is the standard. Our chairman didn’t meet that standard.”
“If Mr. Friscia takes on the mantle of chairman, he should act like one,” said Oddo. “With the title comes responsibility. If he doesn’t want to do the job, he should leave.”
