Today was NPR veteran Carl Kasell’s last day on Morning Edition, and the show commemorated the occasion with “a love song to radio” in the form of an interview with its host of 30 years.
Included: the theme song of the 1950s “Carl Kasell Show” (4:28)–a program that showcased a different Carl Kasell, one who “play[ed] the best, to tunes that [were] your favorite request.”
Listeners need not fear Carl withdrawal, however. Kasell will stay on at NPR and on the show Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me! He promises the only thing retiring is his alarm clock–he will no longer be waking up at 1:05 AM.
