Elwell pleads not guilty

Former Secaucus Mayor Dennis Elwell and political associate Ronald Manzo pleaded not guilty to federal corruption charges today, the Jersey Journal reports.

Elwell, who won the Democratic primary for reelection and was set to run in the November general election, resigned shortly after he was charged in July. He is charged with taking $10,000 in bribes from a federal informant to help with development approvals for a proported Secaucus project.

Manzo pleaded not guilty earlier this year to separate corruption charges against him and his brother, former Assemblyman Louis Manzo (D-Jersey City).
