Ex- Jersey City Councilman found dead

Thomas Fricchione, a prominent Hudson County Democrat who served as a Jersey City Councilman from 1981 to 1989, was found dead in his home on Wednesday. He was 61. Fricchione gave up his Council seat to challenge Mayor Anthony Cucci in 1989; they both lost to former Mayor Gerald McCann. He has remained active in politics – in 1995, he briefly ran as an independent State Assembly candidate against incumbents Joseph Doria and Joseph Charles – and in 2009 he was the treasurer for the successful City Council campaign of Philip Kenny, who resigned following his arrest in the operation bid rig scandal.
