Gloucester County GOP Chairman Bill Fey wrote incoming Senate President Stephen Sweeney (D-West Deptford) today to ask him to recant on his defense of Gloucester County Democratic Chairman Michael Angelini’s alleged pension padding.
Fey said that condoning the six figure pension Angelini stands to get from the state if it is approved does not square with Sweeney’s past statements on pension reform.
“Apparently, your rhetoric was a classic case of ‘do as I say, not as I do.,’” wrote Fey to Sweeney, who is also Gloucester County’s freeholder director. “Your defense of the indefensible actions of Gloucester County Democratic Chairman Michael Angelini following a report issued by the Office of the Inspector General last week was not only deeply disappointing, but it rendered your tough talk on pension reform an eye-popping case of brazen political hypocrisy.”
Fey asked Sweeney to endorse his request for the U.S. Attorney’s Office to investigate Angelini and to call on Angelini to stop down as the county Democratic chairman.
Sweeney could not immediately be reached for comment.
