Holtaway nomination approved

TRENTON — The Senate Judiciary Committee just approved Bedminster Mayor Robert Holtaway to the Highlands Water Protection and Planning Council.

Holtaway’s nomination was meant to be heard two weeks ago, but was withdrawn by Gov. Jon Corzine. That incensed some of the Republicans on the committee – especially state Sen. Christopher “Kip” Bateman (R-Branchburg).

The nomination was opposed by Somerset County Democratic Chairwoman Peg Schaffer, a Bedminster resident, over his plans to build an athletic field in a wood turtle habitat. Holtaway later told the Courier-News that the governor’s office told him that the nomination was withdrawn because of a “staff error.”

Holtaway’s nomination was quickly approved today without any debate. Holtaway nomination approved
