ALBANY—This just in from Austin Shafran, spokesman for the Democratic Majority in the State Senate: “The Senate will reconvene in extraordinary session today at which time it intends to to vote on the deficit reduction plan, Tier V pension reform, public authorities reform, and marriage equality legislation.”

Democratic senators met in a closed conference earlier. If the same-sex marriage bill passes the State Senate, it will have no hurdles to becoming law after action by the Assembly last night.

It’s unclear, however, that it will pass. Shafran told me he was “very optimistic,” and the Democratic leadership in the chamber has said for quite some time that they will only bring it to the floor if they expected it to pass.
