State Sen. Kevin O'Toole (R-Cedar Grove) is refusing to sign off on Gov. Jon Corzine's renomination of Democratic fundraiser David Steiner to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. O'Toole, the Essex County GOP Chairman, has senatorial courtesy over all appointments made in Essex County. Steiner, a millionaire real estate developer, has sought to apply some pressure on O'Toole, even thresatening to help bankroll his opponents in the next election. But Steiner is a solid Democrat and has few friends on the Republican side; O'Toole doesn't seem to care whether Steiner is displeassed or not. His move makes Gov.-elect Christopher Christie happy — Christie wants the Senate to stop confirming Corzine's nominees — and that's the number one guy O'Toole cares about pleasing anyway.
