Zisa likely to exit race for Bergen County Executive

Former Hackensack Mayor Jack Zisa is on the verge of dropping his bid for Bergen County Executive, according to Republican sources familiar with his campaign. That would leave County Clerk Kathleen Donovan without a challenger for the GOP nomination, although some of the Republican leaders who were prepared to support Zisa are considering other candidates. Sources say that there could be a movement to draft popular Assemblyman David Russo (R-Ridgewood), who said last month that he was not interested in running.

With a new Republican governor and two new Republican Freeholders about to take office, the conventional wisdom is that the GOP is in position to mount a serious challenge to the two-term Democratic incumbent, Dennis C. McNerney.
