Codey names Orange mayor to congressional redistricting panel

As one of his final acts as Senate President, Richard Codey (D-Roseland) appointed Orange Mayor Eldridge Hawkins, Jr. to serve as one of six Democratic members of the 2012 Congressional Redistricting Commission.  The Senate President gets two slots on the panel, with the Assembly Speaker and the Democratic State Chairman each getting two.  Codey’s appointment leaves the new Senate President, Stephen Sweeney (D-West Deptford) with one.

Assembly Majority Leader Joseph Cryan (D-Union) also picked one redistricting commission member before his term as Democratic State Chairman expired yesterday.  He picked Maggie Moran, who managed Gov. Jon Corzine’s re-election campaign.  That leaves the new state party chairman, John Wisniewski, with one appointment.
