Stephen Sweeney will become the Senate President on Tuesday, and then will get to serve as Acting Governor after Jon Corzine spends most of his last week in office on a trip to Switzerland. Corzine is expected to leave for Europe after his State of the State address tomorrow, and will return on Sunday — two days before his term as governor comes to a close.
Sweeney’s term as Acting Governor will mark the end of an era. When Kim Guadagno is sworn in on January 19 as the state’s first Lt. Governor, the days when the Senate Presiden gets the power of the governorship when the governor goes out of state will be over.
