Disagreeing with verdit, Corzine commutes killer sentence

Gov. Jon Corzine, back from Europe and with hours remaining in his term, partially commuted the sentence of convicted murderer Quincy Spruell.  Corzine, according to published reports, believed that Spruell was not guilty of the 1985 killing of a suspected drug dealer.  Spruell had more than five years remaining on his 30-year sentence.  Corzine, whose term expires at noon today, also pardoned several other convicted offenders.
