U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez (D-Hoboken), the Chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, had a rough day on Tuesday with the unexpected announcement that U.S. Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-North Dakota) would not seek re-election this year. This will be a tough seat for Menendez to hold, especially if popular GOP Gov. Jon Hoeven runs. But the week has gotten a little better for New Jersey’s Senator: Christopher Dodd (D-Connecticut), who has trailed a GOP challenger in recent independent polls, will say today that he is not running for a sixth term. With Dodd out of the race, Menendez has a better chance of holding the Connecticut seat.
