When Harold Ford Jr. criticizes Kirsten Gillibrand, he also goes out of his way to include jabs at the state’s other senator, Chuck Schumer.
But a reader who attended a fund-raiser for Schumer on October 5, 2009 inside the home of Ron Pearlman, emailed The Observer to say that Ford was among the guests there.
In a statement, Ford confirmed his attendance at the fund-raiser for “my friend” Schumer, and said he planned to vote for him in November.
“Yes I did contribute to my friend Senator Schumer in October last year, and I look forward to voting for him in November. My advice now to Senator Schumer and other Washington Democrats is to heed the lessons of Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts – reset the priorities in Washington to focus on job creation, lowering taxes and reining in government spending. Voters have spoken three times since I contributed to Senator schumer. My hope is that the next time voters speak nationally that we Democrats have delivered for them on jobs and taxes. If we do, we will hold – and maybe even grow – our majorities. If we don’t, the outcome in Massachusetts could happen elsewhere and a lot.”
