Among the Corzine Administration officials who received pink slips from Governor-elect Christopher Christie last Friday was Acting Commissioner of Banking and Insurance Neil Jasey. Jasey, the husband of Assemblywoman Mila Jasey (D-South Orange), was appointed by Gov. Jon Corzine in July on an interim basis but was never confirmed by the State Senate. Sources say that Jasey never had the votes for a full Senate confirmation because of a less than distinguished record as Acting Commissioner and a reputation of being a bit arrogant and disengaged. Under the New Jersey Constitution, Jasey’s interim appointment would have expired immediately if his nomination failed confirmation by the Senate. That’s why Democrats never pushed his nomination.
