At risk of losing the combined annual pensions of $122,395 are former North Arlington Mayor Leonard Kaiser, and his wife, Barbara. The Kaiser’s pleaded guilty last week to federal income tax evasion charges, admitting that they diverted $30,000 in campaign funds for personal use and didn’t declare the income. Also last week, the state pension board stripped former Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Wayne Bryant (D-Lawnside) of his entire pension following his conviction on federal corruption charges. Leonard Kaiser gets an $85,357 pension; Barbara Kaiser’s pension is $37,038.
Leonard Kaiser also served as a Bergen County Freeholder, as Chief of Staff to the County Executive, as a member of the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission, and as Executive Director of the Bergen County Utilities Authority. In 2002, while running Republican Henry McNamara’s campaign for County Executive, Kaiser was also a business partner in a government grants firm owned by former Bergen County Democratic Chairman Joseph Ferriero.
