Menendez’s big day

January 19 is a big day for U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-Hoboken), who faces his first election since becoming chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee last year.   The special election of Ted Kennedy’s U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts has tightened, with independent polls showing Democrat Martha Coakley, the state attorney general, with a single digit lead over Republican State Sen. Scott Brown.   A Boston Globe poll had Coakley up by fifteen points, but tied among voters who are “extremely interested” in the race.
