Several New Jersey Democratic organizations, including Bergen and Hudson, devoted the weekend to making phone calls to boost the chances of the Democratic nominee for United States Senator in Massachusetts, Martha Coakley. Coakley and Republican Scott Brown are locked in a tight race to fill the unexpired term of the late Ted Kennedy.
President Barack Obama made a last minute trip to the Bay State on Sunday to seek votes for Coakley. If Coakley loses, the President will be 0-2 in Sunday pre-election appearances for Democratic candidates: he made stops in Camden and Newark on November 1, 2009 in an effort to help Gov. Jon Corzine win re-election.
