The Press of Atlantic City reports that Joseph Rullo, a Toms River native who ran for Ocean County freeholder as a Democrat 12 years ago, is running for the Republican nomination to take on U.S. Rep. John Adler (D-Cherry Hill).
Rullo owns Today’s Solar Energy in Toms River and worked on Ocean County Freeholder Jack Kelly’s 2008 primary campaign for congress. He has already opened a campaign headquarters, filed with the Federal Election Commission, and started a Web site that has, along with his bio and campaign platforms, pictures of his two cats.
Rullo told the Press that he plans to screen with the Ocean County GOP but will run regardless of whether he wins the party’s support.
Republicans from Burlington County, which has a portion of the congressional district roughly equal to Ocean Couny’s, have all but officially settled on NFL tackle Jon Runyan as their candidate. The favorite to get the Ocean County GOP’s nod is Toms Rivers Councilman Maurice “Mo” Hill. Former Tabernacle Committeeman Justin Murphy, who ran without any party organization backing in 2008, plans to run again as well.
