Two new names have emerged as potential candidates in the race for Democratic State Chairman: former Senate Majority Leader Bernard Kenny (D-Hoboken) and Assemblywoman Nellie Pou (D-Haledon). The incumbent, Assemblyman Joseph Cryan (D-Union) is expected to leave the post after he becomes Assembly Majority Leader next week. So far, only Assemblyman John Wisniewski (D-Sayreville) is seeking support to head the state party. Kenny, a former Hudson County Democratic Chairman, spent 22 years in the Legislature before retiring in 2005. Pou chairs the Assembly Appropriations Committee and would become the first Hispanic state party chairman in state history.
