Seven people involved in the sprawling Galleon Group insider-trading case, all of whom were arrested last November, were indicted by U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara yesterday.

Among them was Zhi Goffer, the former Galleon trader who had his hands in so many deals that associates called him “Octopussy.” Allegedly, Mr. Goffer bit his cell phone SIM card in half when he found out prosecutors were onto him. Demonstrably, he wore a track suit during his perp walk.

According to one former Southern District prosecutor, yesterday’s indictments mean that none of the seven defendants has an impending plea deal to cooperate with the government. The original deadline was Jan. 6, but it was extended by mutual agreement of prosecutors and defense attorneys, which at the time suggested that a deal might be in the works.

Apparently not. Though there’s still plenty of time for them to hammer something out, for now everyone seems to be keeping quiet.
