Perskie heading to local law firm

Superior Court Judge Steven Perskie will retire on February 1, and his heading to Perskie Mairone Brog & Baylinson, an Atlantic County law firm.  Perskie, generally regarded as one of the smartest people to ever serve in the Legislature, was elected to Assembly in 1971 – he ran with Joseph McGahn, who ousted the legendary Frank “Hap” Farley after 41 years in the State Senate – and to the Senate in 1977 – he beat McGahn, who was dumped by the Democratic organization and ran as an independent.  Perskie was the Senate Majority Leader when he was named to the Superior Court in 1982 (Bill Gormley won a special election to fill his Senate seat),  and then served as Chief of Staff to the Governor and as Chairman of the Casino Control Commission before returning to the bench.
