Source: Blakeman Senate Campaign Kicks Off Saturday

A source emailed to say Bruce Blakeman–former speaker of the Nassau County legislature, and now, an attorney in private practice–will announce his candidacy for U.S. Senate this Saturday.

Blakeman had planned to run for New York City mayor in 2009–and even began airing television ads, including one with a talking dog–but dropped out when Michael Bloomberg cleared his throat.

Another source on the Blakeman campaign told me on Tuesday that the announcement was “imminent.” So far, a number of other better-known Republicans have taken a pass on the race.

UPDATE: Blakeman now says his announcement is Sunday.
