Ridgefield Mayor Anthony Suarez will appear in front of a judge in federal court this afternoon in Newark to be arraigned on corruption charges.
Suarez, a Democrat, was arrested as part of the massive federal corruption bust in July and indicted in December on charges of taking $10,000 in bribes to speed through approvals of a federal informant’s purported real estate development.
Also set to be arraigned today is Vincent Tabbachino, a former Guttenberg councilman who is accused of being the middleman between Suarez and the informant, Solomon Dwek.
Suarez remains mayor of Ridgefield despite calls to resign from top state Democrats, including former Gov. Jon Corzine. The two other mayors who were arrested in July – former Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano and former Secaucus Mayor Dennis Elwell – both resigned within eight days of the July sting.
