The New York Times Company announced today that it will create a new unit dedicated to electronic editions. According to BusinessWeek:
Times Co. said in the memo that it appointed Yasmin Namini, the senior vice president of marketing and circulation, as general manager of the unit, which joins four others as part of the Media Group: the newspaper, Web site, the International Herald Tribune and News Services.
Gawker posted Scott Heekin-Canedy’s complete internal memo on the change. And while the word “Apple” appears nowhere in the missive, it seems reasonable to guess that the eagerly awaited tablet might have something to do with The Times‘ timing.
“This is probably the first corporate re-organization motivated by an external product that doesn’t officially exist,” declared Ryan Tate.
