In the hard boiled competitive broil that is this year’s South Ward Council race, Councilman Oscar James II snatched a statement victory early as he submitted enough petitions to be certified as a candidate.
“Two candidates have enough petitions signatures to be certified, and all we have to do is call them at this point to let them know,” Deputy Clerk Kenneth Lewis told PolitickerNJ.com on Tuesday afternoon.
That would be James and Central Ward Councilman Charles Bell, said Lewis.
What about Ras Baraka, the former councilman and deputy mayor who’s opposing James? People on the ground are saying he’s also already submitted his petitions.
“He did submit petitions, but he didn’t submit enough, said Lewis. “Like the other candidates, he will have until March 18 to submit his petitions.”
