If Healy doesn’t run for chair, Turner favors Stack

Veteran Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner this evening told PolitickerNJ.com that Union City Mayor Brian P. Stack would make a good chairman of the Hudson County Democratic Organization (HCDO).

The two-year term of current HCDO Chairman Jerramiah Healy (the mayor of Jersey City) ends in June, and sources say U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez (D-Hoboken) likes consummate street operator – and HCDO renegade – Stack to build ground game operations as the senator considers his own 2012 re-election prospects.

“My understanding is Healy doesn’t want it, and Stack would make a great replacement because he eats and sleeps this business,” said Turner, who’s facing re-election in May along with his fellow Hudson County mayors in Union City and Bayonne.

Stack told PolitickerNJ.com last month that he’s considering pursuing the chairmanship, but in the meantime plans to devote his full public attention to getting re-elected to a third term as mayor.
