On Tuesday, the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission designated the West 44th Street club, once the Yale Club, restricting changes to the building for generations to come. Built in 1901, it’s been the Penn Club for two decades.

The LPC also added to its calendar, an early step toward landmark designation, the Gramercy House on 235 East 22nd Street; a proposed historic district in the Addisleigh Park neighborhood of Queens; and the Shore Theater in Coney Island. The Shore Theater came up in the context of the city’s rezoning of Coney Island, as local advocates had urged the historic theater’s designation.
