The timing shows just how much the party organization does not want Monserrate to stick around after his misdemeanor conviction.

“Jose Peralta will be a Senator we can be proud of,” Joe Crowley, a congressman and county leader said in a public statement.

Earlier today in Manhattan, “a community committee formed in response to the unconstitutional expulsion of Senator Hiram Monserrate” rallied in order “to give a voice to the voters of the 13th Senatorial District,” according to Monserrate’s office.
