Republican Congressional candidate Chris Cox is calling on Governor David Paterson to “resign, effective immediately,” in light of allegations in today’s New York Times story.

Cox, incidentally, is the grandson of Richard Nixon.

In a statement, Cox said Paterson should step aside “so someone else can work to restore confidence and integrity to the office of governor.”

So far, two Democrats have publicly called for Paterson to not seek election later this fall: Representative Steve Israel and State Senator Bill Perkins.
