Sacco won’t run for HCDO chair

North Bergen Mayor/state Sen. Nicholas Sacco said he’s not interested in being the next chair of the Hudson County Democratic Organization (HCDO).

“I’m too busy doing the things I’m doing, and so I take myself out of the running,” said Sacco, who’s identified by Hudson County Democrats as the head of one of two reliable North Hudson political machines. Mayor/state Sen. Brian P. Stack runs the other one in neighboring Union City.

The county committee doesn’t decide on a chair until June, but the consequence of recent Democratic Party losses means landscape volatility and party strategizing in U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez’s (D-Hoboken) home county.

Stack has not ruled out pursuing the chairmanship currently occupied by Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy.

As for his elder statesman counterpart, “My mind is wide open,” said Sacco, when asked who he would support for the position. “As long as that person is willing to put the time in, my mind is open.”
