Union files grievance because DiVincenzo didn’t declare snow day

CWA Local 1081 has filed a grievance against Essex County because county government did not close down during Wednesday’s snow storm.  The union, which represents about 3,500 county employees, claims their contract calls for a day off whenever state government is shut down for weather conditions.  Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo told the Star-Ledger that county workers had the option of taking a vacation or sick day, and explained that a government shutdown would have resulted in overtime pay for county employees responsible for snow removal.
