Weinberg endorses Greenstein for state senate

In her column on Blue Jersey, state Sen. Loretta Weinberg (D-Teaneck) endorsed Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein (D-Plainsboro) to run for the state senate seat being vacated by Bill Baroni (R-Hamilton).

“It appears that Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein is in the lead to become the Democratic candidate for this position.  Linda ‘deserves’ it,” wrote Weinberg, whose Bergen County district is about 50 miles north of Greenstein’s central Jersey district.  “She has seniority in the position; has a solid ‘’Blue Jersey’ voting record and is a terrific vote getter.  I hope party leaders continue coalescing around her candidacy!”

Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo (D-Hamilton) is also considering a run for Baroni’s seat.

Republicans will install an interim incumbent next month at a special convention of county committee members from the district’s towns in Mercer and Middlesex Counties. Hamilton Councilman Tom Goodwin is currently the favorite GOP candidate to replace Baroni, although he has not formally declared an intention to run.
