Rochelle Park Mayor Frank Valenzuela, Franklin Lakes Mayor Maura DiNicola, and former River Edge Councilman John Felice will be the Republican candidates for Bergen County Freeholder.  The three won a fiercely contested Republican convention tonight as the GOP mounts a campaign to win back control of county government for the first time since 2002.  They will face incumbents Elizabeth Calabrese and James Carroll, and Northvale Mayor John Hogan.

In the race for Sheriff, Emerson Police Chief Michael Saudino defeated former ATF agent Dominick Polifrone, 575 to 262.  He will face Leo McGuire, the two-term Democratic incumbent.

Valenzuela (502 votes), DiNicola (447 votes), and Felice (434 votes), five other candidates: Bergen Young Republican Chairman Ken Tuburczy (364 votes), Woodcliff Lake Councilman Jeff Bader (278 votes), John Mitcell (211 votes), and former Fairview Councilman Raymond Gerr (194 votes), and former Fort Lee Councilman John Crsicione (76 votes).
