Ex-prosecutor will challenge Golden in Monmouth Sheriff race

The Democratic candidate for Monmouth County Sheriff is expected to be Eric Brophy, a former Wall Municipal Prosecutor.  He will face Republican Sean Golden, who became Acting Sheriff in January after Kim Guadagno resigned to become Lt. Governor.  Brophy lost his prosecutor gig in Wall after Republicans took control; the job went to Joseph Oxley, the former Sheriff and now the Monmouth County GOP Chairman.

The race for the Democratic Freeholder nomination is between Vincent Solomeno, a former aide to U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone (D-Long Branch), and Spring Lake Borough Councilwoman Janice Venables  The winner of a convention this Saturday will join incumbent John D’Amico on the Democratic ticket.  The GOP has a 3-2 majority on the Board of Freeholders, and each party has one incumbent up this year.
