Last year, when the Journal was developing a culture-only section for New York–which has obviously blossomed into something a bit more robust–then Politico editor Pia Catton told us she didn’t care much for the Times‘ culture pages. And that the Journal could easily beat it up.
“The Times has gone wrong by covering arts nationally and casting the net so wide that they aren’t focused on New York anymore,” she said at the time.
The Journal announced Pia Catton’s hiring for their New York Section on Friday. They’ve got themselves a good foot soldier! Also, Chris Rovzar does a nice job parsing the announcement in hiring Ms. Catton–it’s all one very big dig aimed at Kate Taylor.
