Runyan: ‘Different game, same mindset’
A lot of the hardest knocks Jon Runyan took in professional football he didn’t see coming, and in that regard, he says the sport is not dissimilar from politics – where an email or phone call blast can drop out of nowhere and potentially cause a painful, earth-bound detour. “You don’t know what’s coming in football, and you can get blindsided,” said the Republican, who launches his Congressional campaign tomorrow evening in Mount Laurel in hopes of securing Republican Party backing to run against U.S. Rep. John Adler (D-Cherry Hill). (Pizarro, PolitickerNJ)

Sipprelle questions everything Halfacre in latest salvo, and Halfacre still says ‘Democrat’
To Fair Haven Mayor Mike Halfacre, Princeton venture capitalist Scott Sipprelle is a “Wall Street insider,” a tag line Sipprelle meets with a ready brand for Halfacre: “politically connected lawyer.” In this intensifying 12th Congressional District GOP primary contrest, Sipprelle went on the offensive today with a “Halfacre spreads half truths” piece throwing into question a foundational piece of Halfacre’s candidacy: his word – while Halfacre upped the decibel level on Sipprelle’s drumbeat of Democratic Party donations. Christie continues his budget pitch
Gov. Christie began making the public and media rounds today to talk up his budget and defend it against critics. This morning he was on CNBC’s Squawk Box, where Christie talked about making cuts without regard to his re-election chances and raised the idea of reducing Cost of Living increases for state retirees. The hosts opened the segment by reading off a list of some of the headlines and grim pronouncements gleaned from today’s newspapers. (Tamari, Inquirer)

Stile: We’re guinea pigs in Christie’s trickle-down experiment
Welcome to Christienomics. That easily could have been the title of Governor Christie’s first budget address Tuesday. He unapologetically declared himself a conservative disciple of the trickle-down theory, which holds that less government spending and lower tax rates are the keys to economic prosperity. Ingle: Dow thinks corruption reputation bad rap
Before Chris Christie became governor, people were asking what kind of attorney general the man who made his reputation as a tough federal crime buster would name. The answer is going to disappoint a lot of you. “I do not believe fundamentally that we are the most corrupt state in the United States,” said Attorney General Paula Dow. “To the extent we have that bad rap, it’s about time we change it.” Bad rap? She’s gotta be kidding. (Ingle, Gannett)
Ingle: Lonegan says ‘suburbs getting screwed’
Conservative activist and former gubernatorial candidate Steve Lonegan says “the suburbs are getting screwed” in Gov. Christie’s budget. He says the Abbott districts get a bigger chunk of the education money than before. On a percentage basis, most Morris County schools would get no state aid, he said. He says 5 percent aid cuts aren’t a lot to places that get 95 of their budget from the state. (Ingle, Gannett)
