Two of Gov. Christopher Christie’s cabinet picks are potentially in trouble and Senate confirmation is not assured. Yesterday, the Senate returned the nomination of Janet Rosenzweig back to the Judiciary Committee amidst new questions that her role as executive director of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality might imperil her ability to serve as Commissioner of Children and Family Services. The Judiciary Committee did not complete their hearing on Hal Wirths as Commissioner of Labor and Workforce Development, and some Democratic Senators are saying the veteran Sussex County Freeholder, who owned a furniture shop that employed five people, might not be up to the job.
Rosenzweig and Wirths are both on the job now as Acting Commissioners. If the Senate rejects the nomination of a cabinet member, they are no longer able to continue to serve as an Acting Commissioner.
