Like everyone else, Rupert Murdoch apparently thought Avatar might bomb.
Rather than bankroll the entire $300 million production, Mr. Murdoch hedged his bet and farmed out 60 percent of the funding. So now, according to Bloomberg, he’s only going to get between $350 and $400 million dollars of the estimated $1 billion haul, once all the DVDs and blue masks are sold.
That’s about half the profit for an average News Corp. quarter–or, to be half-empty about the whole thing–roughly the same amount Mr. Murdoch has lost lately in the coupon business.
