Middlesex County Democratic Organization Chairman Joe Spicuzzo says the party will consider the 14th District state senate candidacy of Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein (D-Plainsboro) at its March 16th convention.
As far as Spicuzzo can tell, Greenstein has no opposition in Middlesex County, and is a lock to win the party’s nomination for a run in November’s special election to acquire a seat left by state Sen. Bill Baroni (R-Hamilton).
Gov. Chris Christie last month appointed Baroni to serve as deputy executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
“We’ll be meeting with most of the delegates in Middlesex at our convention and we will vote on resolutions endorsing our three congressmen, Linda Greenstein, our county clerk, and our three freeholders. And then we’re going to go on to the matter of county of sheriff.”
Freeholders M. James Polos and Mildred Scott are vying for the party’s backing to run for sheriff, a post currenty occupied by Spicuzzo.
Spicuzzo last month said he would not pursue re-election.
On March 16th, the county committee will meet at the Pines Manor in Edison.
