Artforum announced on its website today that Tim Griffin is stepping down as editor-in-chief of the magazine after seven years, and will be replaced at the helm by senior editor Michelle Kuo. Mr. Griffin will become editor-at-large, and will “organize symposia and book projects”; he will also work on a book of his own about contemporary art.
“Editing Artforum has been a fantastic privilege and deeply fulfilling, but I’ve done what I can do in this capacity,” Mr. Griffin is quoted as saying in the announcement. “I’m excited that the publishers share my interest in exploring new possibilities related to the magazine, and that I will also have the opportunity to devote more energy to writing and teaching.”
Ms. Kuo has been an editor at Artforum since March 2008, and is a Ph.D. candidate at Harvard in the history of art and architecture.
