Beck’s statement on the death of Joe Azzolina

State Sen. Jennifer Beck (R-Red Bank) served as the chief of staff for former Assemblyman Joe Azzolina, who died yesterday.

” I am deeply saddened to learn that my friend and mentor Captain, Senator and Assemblyman Joe Azzolina passed away,” Beck said in a statement. “He was like family to me and I know he had a great love of New Jersey and its citizens. Joe’s extraordinary generosity and kindness to those in need is legendary. For more than 40 years he dedicated his energy, his intellect and his spirit to serving the people of this State and nation.

Joe was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the occupation forces during World War II, the Korean War and then, off the coast of Lebanon aboard the Battleship USS New Jersey. He retired with the rank of Captain, and was instrumental in the successful effort the return of the USS New Jersey to its namesake state as a must.

As his Chief of Staff, the Captain taught me, through example, the value of hard work. I considered him a role model for public service. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Joe will be sorely missed by our community, who knew, loved and respected him.”
