Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy will not seek re-election as the Hudson County Democratic Chairman – no matter what. Sources say that Healy has made a rather shermanesque-like statement to key Democrats. The corruptions sting that led to the arrests and convictions of several Healy administration officials has made fundraising more difficult for a mayor who never especially liked being the County Chairman. Healy had considered stepping down as early as this month, but decided to stay on after Sheriff Juan Perez switched parties.
Sources say that if there is a fight for County Chairman, it will be between County Executive Thomas DeGise and State Sen. Brian Stack, the mayor of Union City. For Democrats, the big question is where to State Sen. Nicholas Sacco, the mayor of North Bergen, and Bayonne Mayor Mark Smith go. DeGise, some say, is worried that he could get dumped in 2011 if Stack is the County Chairman.
