The walls of this Soho townhouse may not speak, but the old bullet holes could say a lot.
When the Novogratz family, they of six children and a reality TV show, bought this five-story home at 5 Centre Market Place in 2004, it had been a gun shop for over a century, with a brief reprieve as the Prohibition-era home of ambulance-chasing photographer Weegee. The Novogratzes fixed it up, along with three other properties on this 19th-century cobblestone block, and now the guns and holes have been replaced by Venetian plaster.
The house, listed by the Corcoran Group, features Grecian tiles, mahogany French doors and three floors of bedrooms. The garden's cherry trees and French fountain are just a click away with a retractable glass door in the dining area. There's also a rooftop basketball court, but no stray balls will sour relations with the neighbors thanks to a distinctive glass dome.
It's $13.5 million for the townhouse without the grit. But rest assured, underneath the pastel this home still has a secret or two to tell. — Laura Kusisto
