A group of prominent Bergen County Democrats, including key members, municipal chairmen, state and county officials, and BCDO executive committee members, to discuss the party’s future as they enter into a critical election: Dennis C. McNerney’s bid for re-election to as County Executive. The main topic of the meeting was the political future of Michael Kasparian, the Bergen County Democratic County Chairman. There is a large block of powerful Democrats who believe Kasparian needs to be replaced, largely because of his continued ties to his predecessor, Joseph Ferriero. Ferriero is awaiting sentencing on federal corruption charges. Kasparian is being criticized for not providing enough party discipline among those who continue to take their instructions from Ferriero. Kasparian is up for re-election in June – look for a challenge from an anti-Ferriero Democrat.
