JERSEY CITY – Former National Basketball Association pro Terry Dehere (pictured) doesn’t know how tonight’s School Board election will end.
“It was a beautiful day to campaign and soon it will be in the hands of the voters,” the shooting guard turned School Board member told PolitickerNJ.com.
Dehere is running for re-election as one half of a duo completed by the presence of former Mayor/School Board Member Gerry McCann (late in the game, candidate Hiral Patel joined the Dehere/McCann team).
There are other candidates in the race, but the team most eager to defeat McCann/Dehere is the one backed by Ward E Councilman Steve Fulop, who champions Carol Lester, Sterling Waterman and Angel Valentin.
If Fulop’s fusion ticket roughly represents waterfront yups and teachers unions, with Black, Latino, and White segments equally represented, the McCann-Dehere pairing goes straight for the black and white, working class vote, complete with an equal parts appeal to jocks, and the old school political crowd.
