Here’s Eric Schneiderman at his AG campaign kickoff this weekend, where he was endorsed by Reps. Jerry Nadler, Charlie Rangel, and Jose Serrano, as well as State Senate Majority Leader John Sampson, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, and others.
At the event, Schneiderman touted his progressive credentials, and running–not unlike Richard Aborn–as a social justice reformer, rather than a lock ’em up and throw away the key kind of prosecutor.
“Our three-decade-long experiment with mass incarceration is a failure and must be ended,” he said. Schneiderman said he’ll create an office of “actual innocence” to see if anyone in prison should be free.
“There’s something clearly wrong,” said Schneidmerman, “when a country has five percent of the world’s population and 25 percent of the world’s prisoners.”
